Statement of Purpose and Institute Overview:
This training activity will discuss the increasing scientific evidence that links housing conditions and indoor air quality to health and identify the root causes of housing and school related health problems such as asthma & allergies, lead poisoning, cancer and common preventable injuries. A holistic approach to identifying and resolving housing problems that are harmful to the health and well-being of children and families will be discussed. The “Seven Principles of Healthy Housing”, based on the National Center for Healthy Housing (NCHH), Essentials for Healthy Homes Practitioner Course, will be introduced.
Session Objectives: 1. Describe four housing problems and the health impacts associated with them.
2. Identify three important building systems that contribute to a healthy indoor environment.
3. Describe four low cost methods to remediate housing related health hazards.
4. Identify three types of codes that can be used to enforce remediation of housing/building based health tre
