This session will invite a discussion on issues related to professional preparation in school health. The first Presentation will include a review of the rationale for, and content of the eight course curriculum included in the 25-credit heath education pilot certification program designed to prepare prospective candidates for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) exam in South Carolina. The second will include an interactive discussion on the findings of The National Health Educator Competencies Update Project (CUP) regarding the application of competencies identified for school health education with Implications for professional preparation and continuing education for those working in school settings
Session Objectives: Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to: (1) Articulate the content and rationale for the 25-credit eight course curriculum designed to prepare candidates for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) Exam in South Carolina; and (2) Identify the CUP competencies for school health educators with implications for professional preparation and continuing education for those working in school settings.
