Monday, October 27, 2008: 10:30 AM
Oral
"Nurses Without Walls" is public health nursing in action. From public health planning to disaster nursing to global public health activities, PHNs practice without "walls or boundaries" to inhibit their work. This session's papers demonstrate the collaborative skills PHNs exhibit as essential members of disaster response, recovery and the rebuilding teams. Hurricaine "Katrina" and the public health nurse response to the call for help will be presented in a video format.
Session Objectives: List four important contributions public health nurses offered the "Katrina" request for post hurricane health care assistance. Describe how the ten essential functions of public health apply to public health nursing based competencies.
