Family planning is a normal right for every modern family. Our research had in target the evaluation of the position of men and women from Romania regarding abortion, 20 years after the legalisation of the right to abort in our country. We formed a sample representative for all geographical areas, age groups and sexes. The final sample had 1902 members (50.5% women, 49.5% men), all of them answering to an abortion theme questionnaire. The results were evaluated by the SPSS program. The abortion is a solution to be taken in account in case of an unwanted pregnancy, more by men than by women. A higher level of education is linked with considering abortion as an answer to an unwanted pregnancy and a lower education, with taking in account the giving of the unwanted child for adoption (p<0,001). In the evaluation of the abortion risks , the differences between men and women are significant (p=0,038<0,05), men tending to underestimate them. Looking for the overall acceptance of abortion, we saw that the permisivity is high (opinion that abortion is sometimes or always justified prevail on the opinion that abortion is never justified).Contraceptive education and means are widely available in Romania, but the effects of the long period of abortion interdiction are still at the origin of a rather high rate of abortion, justified by permissive conceptions linked to this topic. There is work to be done in the contraception area, even if in recent years the abortion rate went slightly down.

Learning Objectives:
1. Evaluate the position regarding abortion in the XXI Romanian society 2. Explain the necessity of carrying on the contraception education , since the rate of abortion in Romania is still quite high.
