Mona Bormet, MPH, CHES , Policy Team, The Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum, Washington, DC
The Policy Analyst of The Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum, a national health advocacy organization will participate in a panel to share concrete examples of how current, federal health issues affect the Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities and how agencies and community members can become involved in advocacy efforts on the local, state and federal levels.

This panelist will specifically highlight federal efforts around health care reform, including language access issues, health information technology, and other current, policy issues. The speaker will discuss how the reasons communities have expressed for more disaggregated data and research and the main action steps that have resulted. In particular, this section will focus on the development and action steps resulting from convening's that APIAHF has organized to gather together researchers, government officials and community members to improve data and research on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders. The panelist will highlight pursuing policy change through administrative advocacy with federal agencies, such as the National Center for Health Statistics of the CDC, the National Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities of the NIH, in order to pursue community driven priorities. The panelist will also discuss continued education and relationship building with Congressional offices in order to improve the collection and reporting of disaggregated data and increase research efforts on the Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander populations.

Learning Objectives:
1. The participants will be able to discuss timely, federal health issues and articulate such issues into stories that can be translated into policy action. 2. The participants will be able to describe the process of linking personal health stories into federal policy action.
