This session addresses the development and implementation of a competency-based leadership development framework for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. I LEAD is the initiative for leadership enhancement and development. The first phase of the initiative included extensive benchmarking and identification of leading edge practices. The second phased addressed implementation and resulted in a curriculum plan which includes core, elective and advanced courses, job rotations, standardized assessments, mentoring and a robust reinforcement and evaluation strategy. Challenges in developing relevant public health practice case materials for leadership development are reviewed and recommendations for enhancing availability of related curricular materials is outlined. Proposed methods for estimating financial return on program investments are reviewed.
