Abstract

Dr. Horan will discuss his research on Health IT applications within the disability community. With 50 million Americans living with some form of disability, this area of health care and management warrants developments and innovation in the use of electronic systems. Dr. Horan will discuss Kay Center research, which has focused on the use of electronic systems to improve disability benefit and health management. This presentation will include a discussion of the privacy and confidentially concerns and how they are addressed (or not) in electronic systems for disability.

Learning Objectives:
1)Describe in an overview, electronic disability systems for health and benefit management, including the nature and parameters of electronic disability records; 2)Discuss case study analysis of new applications undertaken by Social Security Administration, in collaboration with the National Health Information Network; 3)Discuss policy analysis of broader public health promotion and goals achievable through personal health records, including in both disability as well as diverse communities.
