Martha Dewey Bergren, DNS RN NCSN FNASN FASHA , Director of Research, National Association of School Nurses, Silver Spring, MD
It is very difficult to identify outcome indicators sensitive enough to distinguish between the effects of family and community and the effects of school nursing interventions on child, family and school community outcomes. The acute care community has been working on identifying indicators for a number of years. The school nursing community is now in the beginning stages of identifying comparable indicators. The school nursing indicators suggested thus far and the process of identifying the indicators will be described. Researchers and program evaluators are encouraged to incorporate these outcome indicators in future empirical studies and evaluations.

Learning Objectives:
1. Explain the need to identify critical sensitive school nursing indicators 2. Discuss the process used to identify a potential list of critical sensitive school nursing indicators 3. List potential critical sensitive school nursing indicators identified to date 4. Solicit additional critical sensitive school nursing indicators 5. Promote the use of critical sensitive school nursing indicators in research and evaluation
