John M. Balbus, MD, MPH , Health Program, Environmental Defense Fund, Washington, DC
With the recent change in administration, the federal government is beginning to take more aggressive actions to address climate change, both domestically and internationally. This provides a suite of new opportunities and challenges to ensure that public health is adequately protected, both from emerging threats related to changing climate and from potential adverse health effects of new policy initiatives to address climate change. In this session, we will provide an update on legislative and administrative initiatives related to climate change. The emphasis will be on how these initiatives include and relate to public health and will provide updates on action by APHA.

Learning Objectives:
1. Describe opportunities and challenges to protecting public health from emerging climate change issues. 2. Discuss specific legislative initiatives that impact the relationship between public health and climate change.
