Introduction: While the importance of regular physical activity to health has been well documented, physical activity levels among middle aged and older adults remain low. Thus, additional health promotion approaches are needed. Literature suggests that as individuals' age, they turn to their faith for guidance. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to assess the impact of a Faith-Based Community Center (FBCC), in a mid-sized Midwest community, on physical activity practices among middle aged and older adults. Methods: Using both a quantitative (n=26) and qualitative (n=10) approach, researchers assessed participants (white (99%), female (69%), mean age 55 years) spirituality, current health status and behaviors, current/intended utilization of the FBCC, in addition to changes in physical activity behaviors over a six month time period. Results: Preliminary results reveal at baseline 84% of participants were physically active with 81% using the FBCC. While at six months 69% were physically active with 76% were using the FBCC. During that time participants rating their health as good or better decreased 8%. Researchers also noted statistically significant correlation with FBCC useage. Self rated health was negatively correlated with FBCC participation (baseline, r= -0.239; six month, r= -0.0300). While physical activity participation was positively correlated with usage of the CC (baseline, r= 0.603; six month, r= 0.426). Conclusion: The impact of a Faith-Based CC positively influences health behaviors thus increasing quality of life among middle aged and older adults.
