One of the most important organizations of Andalucía is The “Servicio Andaluz de Salud” (SAS) because it has a great volume of resources and a great number of workers. In 2005, it decided to assume the responsibility of incorporating the environmental commitment in his style of management. The above mentioned commitment implies advancing in the prevention of the environmental impacts derived from the welfare activities and from support supporting, at the same time, that we give coverage to the welfare needs

It started a pioneering initiative on a worldwide scale, the implantation of an Integral System of Environmental common Management for all the sanitary integral centers of the SAS called SIGA-SAS.

It gives coverage to a sanitary regional system composed by 29 Hospitals, 33 Districts of Primary care and 8 centers of blood transfusion, with an staff of more than 85.000 professionals and his population of reference is near to 8 million inhabitants.

The results more impactantes we emphasize the following ones:

 The implantation of the integral system of environmental management has been 64 % of the insole(staff), and the Specializing Attention has obtained the most spectacular results with 80 % of implantation

 More than 60 % of centers belonging to the SAS, possesses systems of captation of thermal solar power.

 The system of waste management, allows rates of recovery near to 80 %.

The implantation of policies that reduce the environmental impact of the SASxs Centers is helping to reach a major degree of sensibility, responsibility and concienciación on the need to protect and preserve the environment. It has a positive direct effect: to improve the health so much of the workers of the sanitary centers and users as well as of the inhabitants of the Andalucía
