The National Children's Study (NCS) will recruit participants in 105 study locations across the U.S. Each of the study locations is linked to a Study Center that has the responsibility to implement the NCS protocol in that study location. Descriptions of the Study Centers will be presented as well as examples of community outreach and engagement activities taking place across the U.S among diverse communities. The NCS is implemented in waves. The pilot phase of the NCS began in January 2009 at two of the seven Vanguard Study Centers and in April 2009 at the remaining five Vanguard Study Centers. The Study Center's pilot phase experience with household enumeration and screening for potential participants will be discussed. Waves 1, 2 and 3 of the NCS follow the pilot phase. Each phase of the NCS has associated public health questions and issues. These and other NCS activities current at the time of the annual APHA meeting will be addressed.

Learning Objectives:
Describe the pilot phase of the NCS.
