Tuesday, November 10, 2009: 2:50 PM

Arlene M. Lester, DDS, MPH , Office of the Secretary-Office of Minority Health, US Department of Health and Human Services, Atlanta, GA
Since the 1985 Task Force Report on Black and Minority Health, racial and ethnic health disparities persist, and in some cases, are increasing. Such persistence affirms the need for greater organization and coordination of the systematic planning, implementation, and evaluation of efforts to achieve better results relative to minority health improvements and health disparities reductions. This presentation describes the Framework developed and released by OMH in more detail and shows how it can be used by stakeholders to reinforce application of existing science and knowledge in planning and implementing programmatic, policy, and research-oriented actions and activities. How the Framework is being applied across individual, environmental/ community, and systems levels will also be described.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of the presentation, participants will be able to: 1. Describe the major levels and components of the Strategic Framework; 2. Discuss how leaders, partners, and other stakeholders committed to eliminating racial and ethnic health disparities can apply the Framework to their efforts; 3. Identify at least two examples of how the Framework has been/is being used by OMH and its partners in Region IV to strengthen planning, implementation, and evaluation of minority health improvement and health disparities reduction efforts.
