213243 Role of Research in the Future of Injury Prevention and ControlWednesday, November 11, 2009: 1:15 PM
Research is the precursor to designing cost effective injury prevention and control programs and a critical component in ongoing program evaluation and success. For the field to continue to make progress in preventing injuries, research will be required to identify new and emerging injury problems, to identify causal pathways that place individuals and communities at risk, to build an evidence base as to the most effective strategies to intervene in these causal pathways, to evaluate best practices in multiple settings and populations, and to translate effective approaches into sustainable policies and programs. Research needs to be integrated into the activities of multiple agencies, including academic institutions; government agencies at the national, state, and local level; non-governmental organizations; and, private industry. SAVIR is partnering with the NCIPC to help promote the CDC Injury Research Agenda to help increase research opportunities and foster research collaborations with multiple agencies. This partnership will involve the identification of critical areas where scientific information is needed to move violence and injury prevention and care forward. The processes and activities of this partnership will be described in this presentation.
