This presentation will describe a specific opportunity for collaboration in the nation's focus on health information technology (HIT) with respect to the National Health IT Collaborative for the Underserved (NHIT) – a national public/private/community partnership that advocates and provides recommendations for the full participation of communities of color and other underserved populations in HIT's benefits. Experiences and lessons learned as the result of initiating, organizing and maintaining the NHIT will be shared, along with an invitation for the engagement of APHA in this important movement.

Learning Objectives:
Describe the National Health IT Collaborative for the Underserved (NHIT ), its mission, key objectives and accomplishments to date. Identify at least two reasons for the establishment of the NHIT and its focus on communities of color and other underserved populations. Describe at least one area in which APHA and the NHIT share common interests and concerns.
