The National Association of Local Boards of Health (NALBOH) is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and training boards of health across the United States. NALBOH works closely with boards of health to help identify strengths and weaknesses within their internal structure. The National Public Health Performance Standards Program (NPHPSP) is a tool developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other national partners to measure infrastructure and capacity of public health systems. NALBOH promotes the use of the NPHPSP Local Public Health Governance Assessment as a tool for boards of health to assess their ability to provide oversight and guidance to local public health agencies. NALBOH's goal is to play a synergistic role in assuring that the Ten Essential Public Health Services are delivered in an effective manner to local communities. NALBOH has worked with several boards of health to implement the NPHPSP Local Public Health Governance tool. Representative boards of health will describe lessons learned from their experiences using the NPHPSP Local Governance Assessment Tool.
