Disclosure statement:

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: My current dissertation research examines the social and clinical experiences of Black women living with HIV in South Carolina with a specific interest related to the manner in which the serostatus of the intimate partner influences pregnancy intentions. I intend to use results from my study to inform the development of structural interventions for HIV positive Black women to reduce HIV transmission risks to their infants and partners as well as providing women with appropriate preconception, prenatal, and postnatal support. In addition to being enrolled full-time as a PhD student, I have also served in my current position as a graduate research associate at the Institute of HIV Prevention Leadership through the University of South Carolina for two years (2007-2009). My primary focus consists of evaluating the effectiveness of a capacity-building intervention through assessing the extent to which knowledge and skills are integrated into the participants’ community-based organizations (CBOs) by employing both quantitative and qualitative research approaches. Additionally, as a member of the evaluation team, I directly observe the physical and social structures of the participating CBOs through site visits across the United States and US Caribbean territories. This position has provided me with direct exposure to the many challenges faced by CBOs which play an instrumental role in curtailing the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Finally, throughout the tenure of my graduate studies, I have presented at a host of conferences and submitted grant applications as an individual and in collaboration with CBOs.
