Disclosure statement:

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: Mayo Professor, Division of Environmental Health Sciences, School of Public Health, University of Minnesota. Dr. Gerberich has both a national and international reputation in the area of injury epidemiology and control and has been involved in a broad range of research investigations that address a number of injury problems, both intentional and unintentional; these include agricultural and other unintentional work-related injuries, work-related and other violence; brain and spinal cord injuries; and sports injuries. In particular, she has major experience and expertise in conducting large population-based studies, including surveillance, at the state, regional and national levels. Dr. Gerberich has led major research efforts over the last two decades in five Midwestern states examining the magnitude of and risk factors for injuries among agricultural families, with a focus on children. She also has conducted several studies on work-related violence --most recently, population-based studies of violence against nurses and teachers in Minnesota. The SPH’s injury prevention graduate training program, established by Gerberich in the 1980s, is one of the nation’s first and has graduated numerous master’s and doctoral students who are engaged in various positions (e.g., industry, health care, academia) and serve as key leaders in injury prevention. This program is one of several located within the Midwest Center for Occupational Health and Safety that is also directed by Dr. Gerberich.
