Monday, November 9, 2009: 10:30 AM
Roundtable
This interesting session will focus on epidemiology education, capacity, resources and dissemination of research findings. Presentations will include discussions of epidemiology education for younger students, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (the “Buckley Amendment”), regional capacity and competencies, challenges that epidemiologists face when designing funding allocation formulas and an illustation of dissemination of study findings to research participants.
Session Objectives: 1. Identify reasons for teaching younger students the science of public health in general, and epidemiology specifically. 2. Discuss the status of regional capacity, competency and obstacles for recruitment and retention of epidemiologists. 3. Describe at least 3 challenges that epidemiologists are likely to face when asked by program managers to recommend indicators and data sources for calculating funding allocation shares among constituent jurisdictions in national or state public health programs.
