This session focuses on several key aspects of programs for children with chronic conditions or special health care needs. SCHIP eligibility and coverage for children with special health care needs is presented using the National Survey data. Cost-effectiveness is discussed in the context of both screening for autism and for school based programs related to asthma management. Additionally the view of rural school health nurses provides another important perspective to management of children with chronic conditions.
Session Objectives: 1 - Describe cost-benefit analyses as they apply to screening or and programs for children with chronic conditions 2 - Discuss trends in SCHIP among children with special health care needs 3 - Describe the views of school nurses who work with children with special health care needs
