2048.0 Social, Political and Cultural Dimensions of Women's HealthSunday, November 8, 2009: 2:30 PM
Poster
The purpose of this poster session is to address the multidimensionality of women’s health. Social determinants of health such as the impact of family social support, reported stress, and living arrangements will be presented. The role of politics and the promotion of women’s health through the development of interventions that decrease barriers of care are common themes shared by the presentations. Such interventions include increasing the participation of women in research, improving the health of women with disabilities, using traditional story telling to further women’s rights, decreasing the use of unsterile blades in female genital cutting, incorporating the experiences of lived mothering into health promotion programs, redefining the role of traditional midwifery in care, and reducing risk factors associated with intimate partner violence.
Session Objectives: 1. Describe the role of identity politics in women's health;
2. Discuss at least three social determinants of women's health;
3. Compare current interventions being used to promote women's health.
