This session highlights the theme of this year’s APHA, and focus on water-related injuries. This Special Session will feature research describing injury deaths due to drowning and flash floods; and the risk and distribution nonfatal swimming-related injuries seen in the emergency department. Participants will also learn about how to prevent these water-related injuries, especially related to drowning.
Session Objectives: 1. Describe the epidemiology of fatal and nonfatal water-related injuries.
2. Explain regional differences in the determinants and distribution of drowning-related deaths.
3. Identify awareness of and efforts to prevent water-related injury deaths.
