With the changing tides of health care systems, there is an increasing number of issues where leadership in both nonprofit organizations and the public health arena can capitalize on each other’s strengths to improve the quality and availability of health care. This presentation will discuss the opportunities for these organizations to develop innovative strategies to tackle the health care challenges of today. For example, obesity remains a critical health issue affecting nearly 35% of U.S. adults over 20. To achieve significant change, partnerships between public health providers, health care systems, private industry, parks and recreation departments, policymakers, and other organizations are critical. Each of these sectors has a role to play, but only together will they attain the results necessary to positively influence health and behavior. When health systems and public health align, organizations are better able to work progressively to tackle today’s challenges.

Session Objectives: Participants will be able to discuss the attributes and outcomes of at least two partnerships between public health and non profit organizations.
