The IOM workshop and its report, US Oral Health Workforce in the Coming Decade, addresses the crisis in the ability to access oral health care services. A discussion of oral health needs, future demographic trends and challenges, and strategies to improve access to oral health services will be provided. A panel of reactors consisting of the Presidents of the American Dental Association, American Dental Hygiene Association, and the American Association of Public Health Dentistry will present their perspectives on addressing the this challenge. The panelists will discuss how we can work together to improve oral health access for the American people, especially the underserved.
Session Objectives: Discuss findings from the IOM Report/Workshop on the US Oral Health Workforce in the Coming Decade. Describe the current and projected dental workforce and addressing future oral health needs. Discuss innovative strategies to address access to care issues through changes in dental workforce.
