Social capital has facilitated understanding of the relationship between social environment and health. This session further explores theoretical differences in literature and provides evidence about the relationship between social capital and health.
Session Objectives: •Describe an approach for educating adolescents about the social determinants of health that enables adolescents to analyze issues pertaining to racial and ethnic health and health care disparities.
•Identify social capital components important for educational programs for improving community health.
•Discuss theoretical and measurement issues in the social capital literature.
•Examine the implications of results for future empirical and community-based research on social capital and health.
•Compare the perspectives and experiences of patients with trained health care interpreters and those without trained interpreters regarding communication with their providers.
