The Asian Pacific Islander Caucus for Public Health (API Caucus), in official relations with the American Public Health Association (APHA), invites abstracts for the 2010 APHA Annual Meeting and Exposition in Denver, CO on November 6-10, 2010. We especially encourage submissions that focus on the theme, "Social Justice: A Public Health Imperative," as it applies to Asian American and Pacific Islander (API) communities in the United States and associated territories. Student submissions are encouraged and should be noted on the application to be eligible for the Annual Award for the Best Student Abstract. The first student author of the highest scoring student abstract will receive an award at API Caucus Reception at the Annual Meeting. Abstract submissions from or with community-based partners are encouraged. In most cases, structured abstracts (250 word maximum) are preferred. All research abstracts should be submitted with five sections: background/significance, objective/purpose, methods, results, and discussion/conclusions. Do not include references or citations in the text of the abstract. Do not include brand or trade names in the title and/or text of the abstract; generic names are required for continuing education credit. All abstracts must be submitted with at least two learning objectives in the proper APHA format (i.e., “By the end of the session, the participant will be able to…”). Please check the abstract title and text for spelling and grammatical errors. Do not include your name or contact information in the text portion as this prohibits blind peer review. If you are unable to identify a specific session for your abstract, please submit it under "Other." Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in your abstract being rejected. Peer review of abstracts is blinded. Abstracts will be peer-reviewed based on the following criteria: Deadline for abstract submission is Wednesday, February 17, 2010 and no exceptions will be made. Please indicate whether you prefer oral or poster formats for your presentation. (Note: If you prefer roundtable format, select "oral" and note your preference for roundtable format in the comments box.) APHA has general guidelines for each format option. There are limited slots available for oral presentations, so please give the Program Committee as many options as possible. Although we will consider ALL submissions, we especially encourage work that focuses on the following topics:
Submitters do not have to be members of APHA or of the API Caucus. Authors of accepted abstracts, however, *must* register for the APHA Annual Meeting and become an individual member of APHA and the API Caucus in order to present at the meeting. Thus, individuals should submit an abstract only if they are committed to making the presentations themselves or to finding a substitute willing to register, attend the meeting, and present the paper, poster, or roundtable instead. Invitations to present will be withdrawn should authors of award abstracts be unable to present at the Annual Meeting.
