Submit Abstract

The Vision Care Section invites presentations of original research on public health issues pertaining to vision and the eye. Submissions from all disciplines are welcome, and interdisciplinary work is encouraged.

The 2010 APHA Meeting's Social Justice theme provides an opportunity to highlight a spectrum of ocular public health concerns, from health disparities to healthcare reform. We are interested in promoting a multi-faceted program. The following topics are intended to stimulate, rather than to limit, the scope of submissions.
  • Economic Evaluation of Eye Care Interventions
  • Evaluating and Addressing Children's Vision Needs
  • Evidence Based Policy and Practice in Eye Care
  • Eye Care Access / Utilization: What's Justice Got to Do With It?
  • Integrating Vision Care into Integrative Healthcare
  • Prevention of Visual Impairment due to Eye and Head Injuries
  • Prevention of Visual Impairment due to Refractive Error and Eye Disease
  • The Right to Sight: Social Stratification and Vision Health Disparities
  • Vision Care Needs of Vulnerable Populations in the US and Worldwide
  • Vision Care and Health Reform
  • Vision Care in Community Health Centers
  • Vision Health and Aging
  • Vision Screening and Eye Health Promotion
  • Visual Impairment and Disability

Continuing Education Credit
APHA values the ability to provide continuing education credit to physicians, nurses and health educators at its annual meeting. Please complete all required information when submitting an abstract so members can claim credit for attending your session. These credits are necessary for members to keep their licenses and credentials.

For a session to be eligible for Continuing Education Credit, each presenter must provide:

1) an abstract free of trade and/or commercial product names

2) at least one MEASURABLE objective (to understand or to learn are not measurable objectives).

Examples of Acceptable Measurable Action Words:
Explain, Demonstrate, Analyze, Formulate, Discuss, Compare, Differentiate, Describe, Name, Assess, Evaluate, Identify, Design, Define or List.

3) A signed Conflict of Interest form with a relevant qualification statement
