The purpose of this presentation is to provide information regarding the details of the expenditure and source of payment data, and other visit level information included on the eight MEPS public use event files produced annually: inpatient stays, emergency room, outpatient, office-based, and dental visits. Also included will be home health, prescribed medicines and other medical expenses. Summary person level use and expenditure variables will also be discussed.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I am the Deputy Director of the Division of Statistical Research and Methods in the Center for Financing, Access, and Cost Trends (CFACT), AHRQ. I work extensively on technical issues related to MEPS survey estimation as well as the design and analysis of health care utilization and expenditure data. I have extensive experience as a statistician at other federal agencies including the Government Accountability Office, National Center for Health Statistics, and Census Bureau.
