Research shows that aspects of religion and spirituality may substantially contribute to better health, a longer lifespan, faster recoveries from illness, and lower utilization of medications during or following major medical interventions. However, only 5% of physicians feel that they are trained or able to effectively respond to patients with spiritual concerns regarding their health, according to a CNN survey. This video empowers physicians to address patients' health-related spiritual issues, as well as models the appropriate skills needed to integrate spiritual care into their practice of medicine. As a result, patients and their family members may be able to better integrate the benefits of spirituality into their recovery and disease management, as well as their overall health.
