Richard Beinecke, DPA, ACSW , Departments of Public & Health Administration, Suffolk University, Boston, MA, US Virgin Islands
Presentation describes an edited book currently being completed that highlights global mental health needs and issues in developed and developing countries, documents examples of innovative and successful programs and transformative leadership, and identifies lessons that can be learned from these that can be used to develop and improve services. After an overview of the global mental health crisis, I will summarize case studies of successful interventions that address a variety of global mental health issues. Leadership challenges, actions, and skills will be emphasized in each. Cases will be drawn from developed and developing countries. For each case, we describe the problem, the intervention, results, the leadership principles and practices highlighted by the case, and key lessons learned. The overall goal is to highlight the importance of global mental health issues, demonstrate that effective interventions are possible frequently in collaboration with other health needs and services, provide best practices that others may utilize, and highlight successful leadership strategies and competencies
