The overarching course of which this abstract is a part provides a comprehensive learning experience about social media and interactive technology for public health professionals. This portion of the presentation will ensure that the participants understand and experience the compelling, vital connection between social media and the work of prevention, promotion and protection. The use of social media to improve outcomes in such areas as emergency preparedness, chronic disease management and child/youth health promotion will be illustrated. Promising case studies and other documented evidence will be shared. Participants will be actively engaged in applying the principles taught in this course to the outcomes that their own projects or organizations are seeking. A capstone for this segment will focus on group exploration of how the lessons learned can be applied to actually accelerate policy, practice and behavior change and thereby improve health outcomes.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: My career spans almost thirty years of strategic planning experience in both public and private sector health and health care. I have led literally hundreds of strategic planning engagements, many in recent years with regard to social media and social marketing strategy and tactics. I am passionate about the potential of social media in public health and currently serve as lead consultant for several major field application projects. I am also an experienced APHA presenter and understand the audience and standards of quality expected.
