Module One—Planning and evaluating social media: The big picture

The overarching course of which this abstract is a part provides a comprehensive learning experience about social media and interactive technology for public health professionals. This portion of the course will provide a comprehensive overview of the current and emerging social media environment, and the implications for planning and implementing social media initiatives in support of the core public health functions of protection, prevention and promotion.

Learning Objectives: Explain how social media offers new opportunities for prevention, promotion and protection work by public health professionals.
Presenting author's disclosure statement:Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I am a public health professional with 30 years of experience planning, implementing and evaluating a wide range of public health initiatives. I serve as a social marketing and social media advisor to a wide range of national, regional and local public health organizations. I am an experienced educator, having served as Director of the Graduate Program in Health Care Organization and Systems at the University of Denver, and in adjunct faculty or preceptor roles in a variety of settings, currently with the University of Rhode Island. I have conducted more than 50 public health trainings, including presenting many highly rated social media trainings together with my colleagues.I am also an experienced APHA presenter and understand the audience and standards of quality expected.
