In 2001, the Center for Healthy Communities was awarded a Community Access Program grant from the US Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources Services Administration to integrate health and human services for underserved populations of the greater Dayton, Ohio community. As part of this grant the HealthLink Outreach Task Force was established. Its purpose is to provide continuing education to human services and health care professionals in the greater Dayton, Ohio region. Task Force members include social workers, nurses, counselors and public health care professionals who work together to develop quarterly educational seminars that address current topics in health promotion and disease prevention, with a special focus given to the underserved populations in the community. Recent topics have included responding to the needs of returning veterans, disaster preparedness, planning and recovery, and coping with economic change in hard times. This presentation will highlight best practices for developing, marketing, and delivering continuing education seminars for human services and health care professionals working in the community. Also, the presentation will detail how community health professionals benefit from these seminars and the impact on better access to underserved populations.
