This presentation will describe a dynamic, interactive new forum for disseminating information on social media, information technology, and public health, including best practices, new research, tips and tricks, and emerging technologies. This is a collaborative enterprise comprised of public health librarians and information specialists across the United States. With information published on a custom social networking site, a blog, Twitter, a Facebook page, and other popular social media, Social Media for Public Health is both a unified, social repository and public forum for new developments in the field.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I have a Masters of Science in Information from the University of Michigan’s School of Information. My program had a strong emphasis on using technology, including social media, to communicate. I am the outreach librarian for the University of Michigan Taubman Health Sciences Library. As part of my outreach duties I assist many public health workers and local health departments setup their organizational facebook pages and other social media accounts. On March 19, 2010, I taught a successful “Facebook for Health Organizations” session at the Great Lakes Chapter of the Society for Public Health Educators “Innovative Technology for Community Engagement” conference. I agree to comply with the American Public Health Association Conflict of Interest and Commercial Support Guidelines, and to disclose to the participants any off-label or experimental uses of a commercial product or service discussed in my presentation.
