OutSpoken Volume III D. Maxwell; J. Bob Allota; M. Jones; M. Camacho; J. Steever, MD; J. Ellen, MD; The Adolescent Trials Network, Connect to Protect® Manhattan In order to address the expanding HIV epidemic among Young Men Who Have Sex with Men (YMSM) of Color and the ever changing systems by which youth communicate, OutSpoken serves as a creative adaptation of the CDC DEBI Community PROMISE. OutSpoken, a digital lifestyle magazine, has built upon the Community PROMISE model of palm card distribution by transforming the written format of Role Model Stories to a video representation. This format allows YMSM of color and their peers to distribute the DVDs virally and communally with viewing parties or through Myspace, Vimeo and Facebook links. The third volume released in February 2010 incorporated three youth members in its production. The DVD features stories pulled directly from NYC's YMSM of color community, including the LGBT communities' first “official” ball on the Christopher Street Pier. This momentous event was a result of a LGBT youth–led agency's community organizing efforts to maintain safe spaces for LGBT youth of color. It also features the Role Model Story, “Access to Care,” where a young man shares his struggles with facing his HIV status. Two youth leaders and members of Vogue Evolution, who brought vogueing to a new audience via America's Best Dance Crew on MTV, share life struggles in an intimate interview. Lastly, “Safe” a sexy, saucy safer sex vignette featuring two young men negotiating not just their roles, but who's wearing the condom first wraps up the DVD.
