David Shafer, PhD , Division of Hydrologic Sciences, Desert Research Institute, Las Vegas, NV
Auerbach will present on an extensive portfolio of ecosystems, earth sciences and other research done by the Desert Research Institute (DRI). Based in Reno and Las Vegas, for the past fifty years the 500 employees of DRI have built funding to an annual level of $50 million/year exploring critical earth and biological sciences topics. These include understanding and answering environmental science questions about global climate change, water quality and availability, air quality, sustainability of desert lands, and life in extreme environments. He will discuss how the public health community has already benefited from their expertise in issues such as asthma, biofuels, natural and man-made disasters, etc.
