There is no question that new forms of media are dramatically transforming the way we communicate today. Whether one refers to these new technologies as digital media, new media or social media, they allow smaller groups of people to congregate online and share, sell and swap goods and information. It also allows more people to have a voice in their community and in the world. This presentation focuses on the way that these new media are transforming public health practices in health communication. Examples of health promotion projects using texting, cell phone videos, and social media will be included. The dark side of these technologies will also be discussed.
