234190 National Prevention and Health Promotion StrategyMonday, November 8, 2010
: 7:50 AM - 8:10 AM
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act had a number of provisions that focus on preventing disease and promoting healthy behaviors: 1) the organization of the National Prevention, Health Promotion, and Public Health Council, and 2) the development of a National Prevention and Health Promotion Strategy. As a result of this session, participants will be able to describe this novel, national approach and provide input to the development and implementation of the national strategy. The development of the National Strategy plan will require public-private collaboration. Specific groups of stakeholders will be involved: Council members, Advisory Group members, federal and non-federal subject matter experts, and federal and non-federal practitioners. Stakeholders are required from a variety of sectors including public health, health care, education, transportation, etc. Obtaining stakeholder input for the national strategy is being accomplished through sessions at national and regional meetings, sector stakeholder calls and an interactive web site. Specifically at this session, questions to be answered by the audience include: 1) What should be the Council's and the National Strategy priorities? 2) How can the Council partner with local stakeholders to support and help focus prevention efforts? 3) What successful experiences working across sectors could be applied to the National Strategy?
