3362.0 Chronic Disease Prevention and Control among Asian & Pacific IslandersMonday, November 8, 2010: 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Poster
As Asian & Pacific Islanders continue to adapt and minimize the burden of chronic disease on our communities, public health research and interventions efforts must be developed “in-language”, “in-culture” and in situ, or where our communities are. This poster session highlights research that will move the needle towards more effective chronic disease prevention and control efforts among Asian & Pacific Islander communities.
Session Objectives: At the end of the session, participants will be able to: (1) Describe two socio-cultural barriers to accessing preventive screenings or vaccinations among APIs; and (2) Identify at least one cultural belief of an API community, framing their understanding chronic disease, utilization of appropriate services, or ability to interpret risk.
