Donna Smith is a journalist turned activist by her experiences with the health care system. These experiences were documdented in Michael Moore's film entitled, SiCKO, in which she is forced to leave her home in California to go asnd live eith her daughter, because of inadequate private health insurance. She is presently an organizer and legislative advocate for the National Nurses United/California Nurses Association. She has spoken in 43 states and the District of Columbia on single-payer reform.
Session Objectives: 1. Describe who Donna Smith is and why she is advocate for single payer, Medicare-for-All health care reform. 2. List the principles underlying an improved, Medicare-for-All health care reform. 3. Identify constituencies that need to be organized to struggle for single payer.
