3228.0 Health Services Research: Access to CareMonday, November 8, 2010: 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM
Oral
The success of the Medicaid program in improving access to care of low-income populations depends on provider participation. Language barriers contribute to disparities in access to health care services among limited English proficient. Physicians provide sub-optimal rates of weight-related counseling; however, the cumulative impact of health care access on longitudinal weight change has not been studied. The 2006 Medicare bariatric surgery National Coverage Determination (NCD) does not cover obese beneficiaries who do not have a CMS-defined comorbidity, such as diabetes and/or hypertension.
Session Objectives: 1. Identify system level barriers in access to dental care
2. Describe the status of language access services for California’s limited English proficient health maintenance organization members
3. Discuss the relationship between health care access and short and long-term weight change.
