The purpose of this invited panel session is to highlight, strategize and discuss the implications of implementing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2010 at the national, state and local level for maternal and child health (MCH) populations. Panel presenters will provide an overview of the ACA provisions that are particularly pertinent to MCH; describe the implications of these provisions for MCH populations; highlight the opportunities and challenges presented by ACA as it relates to coverage expansions, prevention, assuring quality and other key provisions within the law that directly affect MCH populations; and outline recommendations and strategies for assuring that ACA implementation is optimized at the national, state and local level for women, children and their families.
Session Objectives: As a result of attending this session participants will be able to:
1. Identify the key provisions under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that have implications for maternal and child health (MCH) populations.
2. Describe the key opportunities and challenges to implementing ACA at the state and local level for MCH populations.
3. Discuss strategies to ensure that the implementation of ACA is maximized and optimized for MCH populations.
