Introduction to Evaluation: Steps for Evaluating Policy, Systems, and Environmental Change Strategies

The purpose of this presentation is to provide an overview of evaluation including differentiating between formative and summative evaluation as well as the steps needed to develop and implement an evaluation plan focused on measuring policy, systems, and environmental change strategies. Examples of how policy, systems, and environmental change strategies can be monitored and evaluated will be discussed. Several CDC evaluation resources and tools will be provided to enhance the participants' understanding of evaluation within this context.

Presenting author's disclosure statement:Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I currently serve as a senior evaluation specialist/health research analyst in the CDC's Healthy Communities Program. Previously, I was an ORISE Research Fellow in the National Center for Health Marketing (now the Office of the Associate Director for Communication), a program evaluation consultant for Visiting Nurse Health System, Inc., Hospice Atlanta, Refugee Family Services, and Turner/Time Warner, Research Scientist in the Center for AIDS Research at Emory University, and a Professor of Communication Sciences at Virginia Tech. I have authored or co-authored over 30 refereed research articles and book chapters and delivered over 35 professional research presentations at national and international conferences.
