244260 "Jump Starting" Healthy People 2020 in the FieldMonday, October 31, 2011
With the launch of Healthy People 2020 (HP 2020) in December of 2010, the US Department of Health and Human Services (USDHHS) presented a prevention agenda to the nation, which serves as a model framework for health promotion and disease prevention. To evaluate the use of this model and the level to which states, territories, tribes and local communities are able to effectively integrate HP2020 into their health planning, the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) has awarded funding to jurisdictions and communities throughout the U.S. to support the dissemination of this framework. Through this process, ODPHP is able to assess the diverse ways in which HP2020 can provide benchmarks, complement state planning efforts and focus communities on health improvement.
The presentation will discuss examples of responses to HP2020, ways in which its framework and 42 different topic areas are being used to support state and local priorities, and the benefits and challenges of data collection at all levels. Special emphasis will be placed on the role of partnerships in the implementation of HP2020 and sustainability of the projects.
