244999 Nurturing the Food System: Opportunities for Registered Nurses and Other Public Health Practitioners to Jointly Support Healthy CommunitiesTuesday, November 1, 2011: 4:50 PM
Nurses and other health care professionals are called upon to be healthy food models, educators and leaders. Nurses seek healthy food choices for themselves, their patients and the communities in which they serve. The Principles of a Healthy, Sustainable Food System will assist nurses in identifying issues in and designing solutions to health and justice issues throughout the food system. With these principles and the American Nurses Association's 2008 House of Delegates resolution “Healthy Food in Health Care” nurses can receive guidance for a truly healthy, sustainable food system, examining food from production through disposal. Important opportunities exist for collaboration between nursing, public health and other disciplines and some of these will be discussed in this presentation.
