Quality of care management service and care burden

Background:Care management has been introduced into the long term care system and client-oriented service. The outcome of care management service was less focused on caregiver. Objective:The purpose of this study was to analyze the care management service quality and care burden. Method:The data source of this study is derived from the Survey of the Pilot Program for Long Term Care Development. People who were real lived in the Chia-Yi experimental community, and aged 20 and over, with disability were included in the program. The care managers contacted 2,337 persons, and 985 of them deemed eligible were assessed completely by care managers, and there were 762 family caregivers. Results: After controlling other variables, results of logistic regression analyses indicated that the caregiver were had lower care burden when care management service with higher quality(OR=0.446,95%CI=0.234~ 0.927).Besides, the education, combined functional limitation and diseases condition of disabled and gender of caregiver have shown significant influence the care burden. Conclusions:The result showed that higher care management service quality had positive effect on care burden. Our findings implied that policy should pay more attention to develop well-training program for care managers in response to the growing disabled population in Taiwan.
