Monday, October 31, 2011

Monica Pagan Motta, MPH , Fusion (Info & Analysis) Cell, Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, Washington, DC
The National Hospital Available Beds during Emergencies and Disasters (HAvBED) is a web-based bed availability reporting tool for states and territories out of the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response's Hospital Preparedness Program. HAvBED enhances the ability of hospitals and healthcare systems to prepare for and respond to public health emergencies. The Office of Preparedness and Emergency Operations activates HAvBED, calling for states and territories to report bed availability. State, Territorial, and Federal responders work hand-in-hand to anticipate needs with reported bed availability and other situational awareness data. HAvBED was identified to allow for more rapid visibility on which healthcare facilities could host and treat evacuated patients during emergencies. This poster will present HAvBED's utility in emergency response, and introduce new horizons in collaboration with other bed tracking systems to inform Emergency Support Function (ESF) #8 Patient Movement decisions.

Learning Areas:
Epidemiology

Learning Objectives:
1. Discuss elements of patient movement informatics used to influence Federal, state, and territorial patient evacuations. 2. Describe new horizons for HAvBED and potential interoperability with other bed tracking systems.
