In recent years the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has revitalized the coordination of policies and programmatic activities targeted at improvement of the oral health status of various population groups. The Department's commitment to a new Oral Health Initiative in 2010 is an example of such revitalization.

The HHS Oral Health Coordinating Committee (OHCC) plays a unique role in revitalization processes, holding responsibility for leadership, facilitation, and coordination of efforts across HHS; and with external partners, leaders and stakeholders committed to action.

This presentation focuses on the vitality of the OHCC to assure oral health programs and essential services for all Americans, and its importance to the dental public health infrastructure.
