249479 Strategies for Enumerating the Public Health WorkforceMonday, October 31, 2011: 2:30 PM
The University of Michigan School of Public Health established the Center of Excellence in Public Health Workforce Studies (CEPHS) in 2009 with support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention through a cooperative agreement with the Public Health Foundation. In partnership with the Center of Excellence in Public Health Workforce Research and Policy at the University of Kentucky, CEPHS has developed methods for enumerating the public health workforce using secondary data supplemented by primary data collection for specific segments of the public health workforce.
This presentation will highlight the importance of developing a systematic strategy for enumerating the workforce; discuss the strengths and weaknesses of various data collection methods; and describe existing data sources that may be used for a national workforce enumeration. Additionally, findings of workforce surveys conducted by the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists and the Association of Public Health Laboratories in partnership with CEPHS that profile the size and composition of the national epidemiology and public health laboratory workforces will be summarized.
