Young workers (defined as those ages 14- 24) are twice as likely as older workers to end up in the emergency department as a result of an occupational health injury or illness. The approach to target young workers for training as they enter the workforce requires a multifaceted approach. This presentation will discuss how the utilization of online social networking may serve as a means to both promote occupational outreach training for young workers and provide educational resources for this worker population. The use of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, blogging, and websites as mechanisms for distribution of information and educational resources will be discussed. Participants will learn how to set up and link various accounts to centralize distribution of information. This presentation will also provide a how-to demonstration of the tools and technology utilized in this approach to provide outreach training through online social mediums. Interactive training resources developed through the Susan Harwood Capacity building grant to develop a Southeast Center for Young Worker Safety and Health will be presented.
